Robert Half provides career resources to help bridge the gap between organizations seeking skilled talent and veterans and their spouses pursuing opportunities in the civilian workforce.

As a talent solutions firm, we are ideally positioned to help veterans with their careers. We’ve focused our efforts into what we have named the Robert Half Veterans Initiative, the goals of which are to: Provide career resources to veterans and military spouses Help veterans identify civilian career opportunities where both their military experience and their technical and soft skills will be understood and valued Work with organizations that support the military community Train our employees to translate veterans’ specialized skills for civilian employers Help our internal staff be more effective at connecting veteran candidates with opportunities for which they are a good fit, either within our organization or at our clients’ businesses

Transitioning into the civilian workforce

[00:01] I was in the Air Force for six years and I was a load master on C5’s, which are those very large cargo airplanes. [00:08] I was served in the United States Air Force for 26 years. My rank was lieutenant colonel. I started out in budget finance in the Air Force. [00:16] I was a specialist in 5th battalion, 19th Special Forces Group. My exact job title was a radio operator maintainer. [00:32] When I first got out, I was unsure of what I wanted to do, and I didn't have a lot of knowledge on what kinds of jobs were available to me. [00:45] The goals of the Robert Half Veterans Initiative is to help veterans make a transition from the military into civilian life, and also help the families. [00:55] These are excellent candidates. They're committed, they're ethical, they're disciplined. They're great team players. [01:01] We can be a good representative for those veterans to help not only the employer get the most from the talent, but also to help that military veteran understand what they're capable of doing. [01:15] There aren't really load masters or people that fly on large cargo planes, in the civilian world. So I really had to figure out, okay, what do I do next? [01:25] My military experience was security and firing weapons, and that didn't really translate into building Excel spreadsheets and, you know, playing with numbers. [01:33] I had a recruiter at a job fair once look at my resume and say, oh, that's that's a military experience. That doesn't even count. It feels like you're almost just speaking another language. [01:44] Our military skills translator has been a really beneficial tool. [01:50] The military personnel put in their code and then out comes what they're capable of doing in the civilian workforce. [02:03] Robert Half collaborates with several military bases. We partner with a transition assistance program leaders to do mock interviews, resume reviews, and also attend employer panel days in which folks who are transitioning from the military can learn more about Robert Half. [02:20] Robert Half has a number of relationships with organizations helping veterans move into corporate America. [02:27] Finding those organizations has really allowed us to connect with veterans that we may not have known were in our community. [02:35] This is a workforce that is highly trained, highly motivated, and highly dedicated. [02:42] Robert Half gave me an opportunity when nobody else was willing to give me that opportunity. [02:47] Robert half sees my resume and they see that I'm a veteran, so it takes away one level of explaining myself. [02:55] My teaming up with Robert Half was a springboard that launched my career into the position I am now.
